Who will you give a raspberry to today?
Reading ‘The Art of Possibility’ on the way to work right now and thought this was wonderful.

At the holocaust memorial in Boston there are stories inscribed on pillars about the cruelty and suffering in the death camps. One of the pillars has a different kind of story.

It’s about a little girl called Ilse and her childhood friend Guerda who were both in Auschwitz.

Guerda remembers that Ilse, who was 6, found a single raspberry in the camp one morning.

She carried it with her all day long in a protected place in her pocket. That evening, her eyes shining with happiness, she presented it to her friend Guerda on a leaf.

“Imagine a world”, writes Guerda, “in which your entire posession is one raspberry, and you give it to your friend.”
